Telengana gets a new ‘Dead’line

Chandrasekhara Rao and his team have now give another deadline to the Sonia Gandhi’s Congress. Did I hear a yawn ? Well that might be nothing new as KCR’s habit of calling wolf has become something of a bore. March 6th is the d-day and after that Rao’s MLAs and MPs will resign.

For Chief Minister, YS Rajasekhara Reddy, this piece of news will not be much more than a storm in a teacup. He has been accustomed to such threats before and nothing has happened in the past. And nothing much will happen this time too. KCR knows that the game of bluff will not have much of an impact on Congress which is fighting a battle of its own. Telangana Congress MLAs have also made the right noises to ensure that their names stay prominently in the media.

Led by ‘I should have been President of India’ Kaka and ‘unguided missile’ MSR have doubled up to make strong statements, which was aimed just at staying on the front pages. For YSR the T issue will be decided by 10 Janpath, till someone reminded that we are a democratic nation. “I did not say Sonia Gandhi will decide, what I said was that she will consult other UPA partners and decide” YSR demurred. In between Veerappa Moily like a school headmaster admonished anyone from talking about T issue, which was promptly ignored by the warring partymen.

So what will happen after March 6th ? Nothing say political analysts. YSR will get 10 Janpath to issue a statement which will say that the Telangana issue is under ‘serious’ consideration. She may even talk about referring the T issue to a parliamentary standing committee, which will ensure that no decision will be taken in the near future. After flop shows in Gujarat and Himachal, KCR and Telangana is the last priority in Sonia’s calendar. She has a bigger problem to handle – Mayawati. The lady who wants to be PM asked a very obvious question last week ‘Who is Sonia ?’

Congress think-tanks have worked out a way to cut the lady from UP to size, by splitting UP into three pieces and thus having a ghost of a chance of increasing their seats from the cow belt in the next Lok Sabha polls. With that in mind, Junior Gandhi has been making rounds of Bundelkhand. More than to appease KCR and Telangana Congress leaders, the Congress President will settle for Telangana. But when will that happen ?

Those who have their ears close to the ground, say that the political landscape will change closer to the Lok Sabha elections. With or without KCR or YSR. After all Sonia’s Congress needs UP more than Andhra.
