The Hyderabadi Chai

If there is something that a Hyderabadi can call his own, it’s his chai.

The brew has a strange taste in the Irani hotels, that dot the twin cities. There are many who swear by the tea that is served at Alfa Hotel, located near the Secunderabad Railway Station. Here tea is served in hundreds and those savouring the concoction have to stand and have it – there is no place nor time to sit.

At the other end of the city, there is the hugely popular Madina Hotel. Tea at the Irani hotels come with a glass of water, which is best avoided. But do check out the Osmania biscuits and Samosas which are served along.
