Many call it a maze, but Hyderabadi gullies are a marvel of engineering skill. Each of the narrow alleyways seem to get into another and then into another. Inhabiting this maze is a mix of people, animals and vehicles of every shape and size. A cacophony of shouts and automobile din greets the occupants and visitors alike. But amidst all this stands the royal, majestic Charminar. Built over 408 years ago to commemorate the eradication of plague, the Charminar is a four columned structure which also houses a mosque. Through a narrow winding staircase, visitors can reach the upper storeys of the monument. From here one can get a panoramic view of the city. Strangely, it looks so peaceful from atop here.
