BITS comes to Hyd

It’ another feather in the cap of Hyderabad as the prestigious BITS (Birla Institute of Technology and Sciences) has decided to set up its campus in Hyderabad.

BITS only other campus apart from Pilani is located in Goa. BITS has bought of 200 acres of land from Hyderabad Urban Development Authority (HUDA) at a cost of Rs.1.5 lakh per acre at Jawaharnagar, near Shamirpet, in Ranga Reddy district. Smart of them to have done that.
If it had taken the land free from the Govt of AP, then all kinds of freebies like reservations for local candidates and other related stuff would have kicked in.

Already Dr. Rajasekhara Reddy announced that poor and meritorious students of the institute would be entitled for scholarships just as those studying in other institutes in the States. That’s fine as he long he does not get into insisting that all seats in BITS, Hyderabad should be filled in by students from AP. The BITS campus is located near an illustrious neighbour, the NALSAR College of Law.

The ground-breaking ceremony for the third campus of BITS will be held on 30th March, which incidentally is Ugadi, the Telugu New Year day. The fact that nearly one third of seats in the BITS every year are bagged by the students from Andhra Pradesh went in favour of the present decision.
