The Gagan Narang hat-trick at Melbourne

Gagan Narang has done India proud, and in turn done a world of good for aspiring shooters from Hyderabad. For a young man, with a passion for the gun and shooting range, it was but natural, that laurels world come his way.

The early days, were tough for this middle class boy from Hyderabad. His parents after having discovered the passion for shooting backed him to the hilt. They even sold a piece of land they owned in Bowenpally in Secunderabad to buy him the imported gun and equipment that he needed. According to his dad, he has no regrets in selling the asset to further his son's cause.

With three golds to his credit in Commonwealth games at Melbourne, this boy is sure to go places. What he needs is sponsorship in bushels, and a good trainer.

The time has also come for the state government to all out and set up a dedicated training facility at the state of the art shooting range that was set up for the Afro Asian games at the University of Hyderabad in Gachibowli on the outskirts of Hyderabad.

Just like the ascent of Sania Mirza caught the fancy of hundreds of young kids, it's time we use the euphoria to our best advantage. Let us have more Narangs.
