Secunderabad station to have its own hotel

The Secunderabad division of the South Central Railway is proposing to establish a hotel -- Budget Hotel -- on the Bhoiguda side of the Secunderabad Railway Station. The Bhoiguda entrance has become very popular with people who access the railway station. The traditional entrance has become very crowded due to hawkers and haphazard parking of vehciles. On the other hand, the Bhoiguda side has plenty of space, but passengers find it difficuklt to lug up their kids and luggage. South Central railway should look at an escalator which will make things better, specially for the elderly.

The hotel will be set up under public-private partnership. The railways will lease out land while private parties will take up construction and maintenance works. The railway authorities have been identified 3,350 square metres of land on the Boiguda side for the purpose. Tenders were called in March this year and nine applications had been received.

The proposed hotel will have two entrances -- one from Boiguda side and the other from the Oliphant Bridge side. It will be managed by Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC). The lease period will be 30 years.
