AP tops Highway deaths

At 9,679, Andhra Pradesh tops highway deaths

New Delhi: The country’s highways are becoming death stretches. And Andhra Pradesh tops the list with 9,679 deaths on all roads while recording 12,511 accidents on national highways running through the state in 2003 as compared to 8,428 deaths in 2001 and 9,096 accidents.

Andhra is followed by Maharashtra where the total deaths on all roads are 9,483 while Tamil Nadu comes third with 9,275 deaths on all roads including national highways. Tamil Nadu heads the charts in number of accidents in 2003 at 20,655.

That's bad news, and let us do something about it.
