Why American Presidents come to Hyderabad

When the former Andhra Pradesh CM N Chandrababu Naidu literally whisked away then US president Bill Clinton for a tete-a-tete at Hitec City in Hyderabad in March 2000 and asked him why he had chosen to visit this city, Clinton told Naidu that a research undertaken by his team had tagged Hyderabad as an upcoming 'model city'.

"Clinton told me it was not really the efforts undertaken by us that brought him to Hyderabad. On the contrary, the White House staff had labelled Hyderabad as a model city, and hence, he decided to see it first hand," Naidu told The Times of India. In the six years since that visit, the infrastructure in this quarter of the city has improved. "Clinton may have been a Democrat and Bush a Republican, but it is the same perception they carry about Hyderabad. Which is why Bush too is coming to Hyderabad," said an analyst.

Sources say that in the run up to Bush's visit, US embassy officials besides looking at the upgraded infrastructure of Hyderabad had carefully examined two big events held in the city recently: Indian Science Congress and the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas held in Hyderabad in early January.
