The new flyovers coming up on the Begumpet-Greenlands-Punjagutta route is sure to drive traffic crazy.
To create more width for traffic, the central median has been demolished, the palm trees carted away and the remains levelled with a fresh layer of bitumen. A temporary railing has been erected and the digging worked has commenced with barricades around the hot spots. But like everything else that happens in India, the work will take ages. The municipal authorities don't seem to be bothered in pushing the contractors to work round the clock and finish the work well ahead of time.
A Japanese company built a huge bridge across the Yamuna in Delhi in just two years flat. They did it by working 24 x 7, setting out tight deadlines for the sub-contractors. The present flyovers can be completed in less than 8 months if the work on all aspects of the flyover starts at one go, instead of the piece meal basis.
Wake up Sanjay Jaju and team. Make the snail run.
