Work on Hyderabad Metro to begin

After having been stuck on the issue of Standard gauge or Broad gauge for months, the Group of Ministers (GOM), Govt of India has approved standard gauge for the proposed Hyderabad Metro.

Finance Minister, P Chidambaram had mentioned the Hyderabad metro project in his budget speech indicating that part funding of the project is possible. This move will enable the state government to go ahead and tie up the loose ends and get the major investor who build and operate the network.

The Rs 4,206 crore project will have two corridors, Miyapur-Chaitanyapuri and Secunderabad-Falaknuma. Presently, the city has a suburban Multi-Modal Transit System (MMTS) which runs along the Falknuma- Nampally- Lingampally route. (See the picture above)
